Whirlwind Trip!

We had a super quick trip to California this past weekend. Greg's Grandpa John had his 80th birthday party so we made the trip out to celebrate with him. We caught a late flight out of SLC Friday night and flew to Burbank where we checked into a hotel right by the airport. We were so exhausted. It was a tough flight with David who won't sleep anywhere but a crib. Forget trying to get him to snuggle and relax and sleep on a plane at 11:30pm. We had reserved the cheapest economy room we could at the Marriott and actually found a great deal on the room, which we had booked a couple months ago. When we got there to check in, they had given our room away to someone else. So, they gave us a free upgrade to a luxury suite and we didn't mind a bit.
Grandpa's party was the next day on Saturday and it was so great. Yummy food, lots of games and socializing. It was more like a family reunion with 40-50 people there. The kids got to ride a horse! We went back to our hotel that night and got up early Sunday morning to fly home. While in the Salt Lake airport, we took a great video of David on the escalator. He is so precious!

Oh What a Night!

No, this isn't a post about that somewhat inappropriate song from the 60s (which I happen to love) it's about the Wildings' night last night.
Around 4:30 the entire household woke up to the most piercing, screaming, horrible noise imaginable. The smoke detector in Andrew and Nathan's bedroom had gone off. I have never in my life heard a noise like that. I can't even begin to describe the boys' reaction to being woken up by such a noise. Complete pandamonium. Greg climbed up on a chair and yanked the thing down to get it to stop. He took out the battery and we tried to calm everyone down. Andrew has a horror of fires for some reason. We've never had a fire and never had a problem before. When he was in kindergarten the kids had a fire drill and he panicked so much his teacher had to call me in to calm him down. I have no idea where he got this paralyzing fear of fires. Anyway, we think it was just a weird battery thing. Maybe the battery needed to be changed and it yells at you when it's ready. We all got back to bed for a little while and then BAM the same thing happened with a different smoke detector out in the hall. Everyone up, crying, hysterics, etc. We're positive there was no smoke in the house. We don't know what would set them off, unless it was just time to change batteries. I couldn't fall asleep after that, so I've been up for quite awhile this morning. I hope I can take a nap this afternoon. We're flying to California tonight on a VERY late flight and this could be a really long night.

Sick, Sick, Sick

Without fail I get sick every year just as the season turns to Autumn. And it seems to stay with me for weeks. Just a yuck cold that never goes away. Very annoying.
David my 16 month old has this completely bizarre rash over his entire body. It started out as a few red spots, then grew to huge patches, then finally covering most of his body. I took him to the instacare clinic because it was a weekend and his pediatrician was closed. The doc there told me it was probably some virus and he couldn't do anything for me. So today I'm taking him to his pediatrician and see what he says. It doesn't seem to both him much. He doesn't scratch at it. He's not acting grumpy or sick. He's just his normal happy self but with an ugly red rash covering him head to toe. No fever, either. Very strange.
