Up, up, up, and more up

Yesterday we went for a family hike up to the Timpanogos Caves. I had been long ago as a kid and remembered it being really cool. So we took our boys and the ever helpful Uncle Paul and up we went. It took about an hour to get up to the cave on foot, then maybe a half an hour guided tour through. Very beautiful up there. The boys did great. The trail gets awfully steep in some parts, but the whole thing was paved and you can rest all along the way. After the hike we went to the first BYU home game at LaVell Edwards Stadium and watched them lose spectacularly to Florida State. It was painful. We usually park pretty far away from the stadium so we don't get stuck in the horrible traffic crunch getting away, but we have to hoof it for a long distance to and from the game and after our hike that morning, I was pretty beat. But it was still a fun day.

It's about time!!!

My baby can walk! This little kid can finally walk at almost 16 months old. What a late bloomer...He was a super late crawler, too. But finally last Saturday at Andrew's soccer game he decided he wanted to walk. I was concentrating on Andrew's goalie skills and didn't look at David until he had walked out onto the field and was chirping "ball, ball." It was so sweet! Back when he turned one year old we took him to his one year doctor visit for shots, etc and his pediatrician asked if he was walking yet. I said no, and he told me to "make sure he is walking by 15 months." I thought that a strange request, because how in the heck was I supposed to force him to walk? This kid is NOT carried around on my hip all day. He is down on the floor and there was no reason I could see why it took him so long to walk. So at his 15 month visit for more shots the doc asked if he was walking yet. I again said no and he didn't say anything for awhile. But finally shrugged if off and labeled it a "personality shortcoming."(???) Anyway, he's super cute and looks like he's drunk cause he wobbles all over the place, but we can't get enough of it.

preschool, new haircuts, odds-n-ends...

We have been settling in nicely to our routine of having Andrew in school all day. Nathan just started his half day, three day a week preschool. It's run by a sweet girl in our Stake and it's in her home. He absolutely loves it. The first day he was a little bit nervous, but since then he's coming home gushing with news every day. I think he really needed something like this. I love having him home with me, but I also think he needs some social interaction and some time where he's not with me every minute of the day. It'll help him get over his incredible shyness. Lately he's been reverting back to "baby talk" and acting like a baby. It's been worrying me a lot and I can't understand why he's doing it. I'm hoping that preschool will help him feel like a big boy and help get him over this.
David has always had out of control hair and I've just let it go because it's so fun. But we finally broke down and cut it and now he looks a little more respectable.
Before school started we went on a week long family reunion and went to Redfish Lake in Idaho. It is absolutely the most beautiful lake on the planet. Nestled in the mountains north of Sun Valley, Idaho it truly is a little bit of heaven on Earth. We stayed in some fun cabins and had all sorts of fun playing in the lake, renting paddle boats and jumping off the dock into the deep end. It was so fun and relaxing. I'm just now getting around to posting a few of those pictures, too.
